Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the best place to put the Waterbutt?
There isn't really a right or a wrong place to site the Waterbutt - really it is wherever is convenient. But you do need to make sure you have a fairly stable surface, ideally hard ground or a concreted / patio area, as once full the Waterbutt will be rather heavy! And.. of course, you will usually want it next to a downpipe from the guttering.
Do I need a waterbutt stand?
Most people will certainly benefit from having a waterbutt stand. As well as allowing access to the tap (which would usually be situated at the bottom of the butt) it also provides the best and most stable base for the waterbutt, allowing the weight to be evenly distributed. In some cases you may not need the stand, for example where you wish to use a submersible pump only and not require access to the tap. We provide all our Waterbutts with the Stand (where applicable) and Downpipe Connection kit. To buy them without these accessories please visit our sister website, WaterButtsDirect.
How does the Downpipe Connection Kit work?
The Downpipe Connection Kit simply intercepts the water as it comes down the downpipe and feeds it into your Waterbutt. Once the Waterbutt is full it then stops accepting further rainwater and the rainwater continues down your downpipe into the drain. It is very simple to fit - you just need to drill a small hole on the side of the waterbutt (to connect the inlet hose) and cut a small slice from your downpipe (to fit the divertor part). We provide very easy to follow instructions.
