The Hogilo has been endorsed by the Hedgehog Preservation Society as a reliable and secure dwelling for hedgehogs undergoing rehabilitation and those that need to be released back into the wild.

Featuring a swivel lid that allows for easy access to the interior, caretakers can tend to the needs of their patients, clean the dwelling, and provide sustenance. To keep hedgehogs safe and dry, the Hogilo features a roof and porch that provide cover against rain. Additionally, raised battened feet protect the dwelling against rot.
With an entrance tunnel that is smaller than a 5-inch square, hedgehogs are given the utmost privacy when inside the dwelling. Inside the porch, a maze-style entry door ensures that the hedgehog can retreat into the inner sanctuary with ease.
Crafted from recycled agricultural plastic on a plywood skeleton, the Hogilo is constructed using screw techniques that provide durability and longevity. This means that the dwelling can withstand being crushed or strimmed, ensuring that hedgehogs remain safe.
To maintain the dwelling's hygiene and cleanliness, it is essential to clean it when unoccupied after winter use (late March to early April). If fleas become a problem, organic Pyrethrum powders suitable for birds should be used to treat the dwelling. Avoid using dog and cat treatments as they can be too strong and may cause harm to hedgehogs.
