Wormeries provide an efficient method of composting at home, as well as a valuable way to get rid of kitchen waste — hence why they are also referred to as “worm bins”. Whether you’re interested in an Original Wormery, or one of our Tiger Wormeries, all of our top-selling range of DIY wormeries come with accessories, and the worms themselves, to help you get started.
How does a wormery work?
Wormeries are designed to work as both an easy way to get rid of household waste and a cost-effective method of creating compost. Simply put, the worms will eat the organic matter you put into your wormery — such as fruit and vegetables, coffee grounds, and even paper — at warm temperatures. By using stacking trays, the worms can be placed on higher levels, letting the compost the worms produce fall to the bottom level. This makes it easy and efficient to collect the compost produced within your wormery when it is ready.
If you’re looking to buy a wormery, purchasing the right kind of worms is essential. Since standard earthworms live in soil, rather than organic matter, they will not be able to contribute to the composting process. That’s why we sell the species which are commonly considered the best wormery worms — tiger worms — which are the most effective at turning your organic food waste into useful, natural compost.
